What is 7 Bird on Bike Crystal Glass?
Historically, the desire behind the creation of glass crystal is for a material with a more elegant form than normal, everyday glass. However, there are few guidelines on what constitutes a “crystal.’ None are agreed upon. In the United States any glass with a lead content of 1% is termed “crystal.” Europe stipulates a lead content of 24%. Contrary to that definition, some vendors offer lead-free crystals. Glass itself is an amorphous solid, meaning its molecular structure is non-uniform and hence naturally lacks the crystalline structure inherent to crystals — as defined scientifically.
Yet we can agree on common characteristics of materials traditionally referred to as crystals: These are greater material strength allowing the craftsman to produce finer edges with a greater level of ornate detail, balanced with brilliance and sparkle. Such crystals have a higher crystalline structure than normal, everyday glass.
At 7 Bird on Bike we create jewellery through a manufacturing process that balances handcraft with the chemical complexity of engineering the crystalline glass structure required to embody the fine art and level of detail in every piece of our jewellery. 7 Bird on Bike Crystal Glass is free of harmful, heavy metals. The exact recipe and the chemical composition of silicates and minerals remain a trade secret.
